Have you read about the lesbian couple who are being forced to live apart? Yes, forced. It’s either that or for one, not be able to see her children.
Judge John R. Roach of Texas has enforced a “morality clause” in a custody agreement between her and her ex-husband. The morality clause makes it illegal for her to have anyone she is dating or is intimate with — but is not related to by blood or marriage — be at her home with her two children after 9 p.m. Since she currently lives with a woman she cannot marry because the state of Texas forbids same-sex marriage her only alternative is to move.
What is wrong when a woman has to choose between being a mother and being in love? If the ex-husband in this case falls in love, he can marry and there is no problem. Granted, he cannot live with someone under this “morality clause” (though I wonder if it is equally enforced for heterosexual couples) but he can marry while his ex-wife cannot. This is simply unfair and once again, pure and simple discrimination.
One more reason for me not to live in Texas.
