This past Sunday I had the privilege and the honor of marching in the Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade with my husband, our son and son-in-law alongside over 350 employees and family members of our son’s employer Bank of America. I’ve marched in Gay Pride parades before but never with my family. It’s been my dream for 25 years! My son Rick is very involved in the planning of the Bank’s participation in the parade. When we arrived, he was busy registering people. So many of those who know him told me how much they like him. I was feeling very proud!
Below is a picture of me and my husband before taking off on the march. There was a day that I wondered if Joe would ever march with me but that was so long ago I can barely remember. He is hugely supportive of our son and of the work I do. Below is a picture of me, my husband Joe and our son Rick and his husband Jeffrey. They’ve been together for 21 ½ years but only married last November. I fought hard for the right to marry for the LGBT community and will continue to. As far as I was concerned, Jeffrey was our son-in-law whether they were legally married or not.
Below are some of the sights and scenes of the parade. I hope they give you a flavor of it. I will also be marching in the San Francisco Pride parade this year with PFLAG. This is the first year I will march in two parades in 1 year! I’ll take photos and post them as well so watch for that!
